Staffordshire Police would like to remind residents to take a few simple steps to help keep their homes and property safe.

Unfortunately, opportunist criminals will often target properties that appear insecure. By improving home security, you can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.

Top Home Safety Tips

✅ Always lock all doors and windows when leaving your property, even if it is only for a short period.

✅ Keep valuables such as keys, wallets, handbags, and electronic devices out of sight from windows and doors.

✅ Ensure sheds, garages, and outbuildings are secured with good-quality locks and consider fitting alarms where appropriate.

✅ Install security lighting and, where possible, CCTV or video doorbells to deter offenders and capture evidence if an incident occurs.

✅ Avoid advertising holidays or prolonged periods away from home on social media.

✅ Mark valuable property and bicycles with security markings and keep a record of serial numbers.

✅ Consider using timer switches on lights when away from home to make the property appear occupied.

✅ Report any suspicious behaviour, vehicles, or individuals acting unusually in your neighbourhood.

Be a Good Neighbour

Look out for vulnerable neighbours and report any concerns. Strong communities and vigilant residents play an important role in preventing crime and keeping neighbourhoods safe.
